About The Indoor Plant Guide

Care notes, problem cures & pet-safety checks — checked against real sources.

The Indoor Plant Guide is a field guide for people who grow plants inside their homes — and occasionally watch one of them struggle and wonder why.

Every guide here is built the same way. First, the plant is grown and the method is tested at home, on real plants, in real rooms. Then every fact — light levels, watering, soil mixes, toxicity — is checked against a published source before it reaches this site: university extension services such as NC State Extension and UF/IFAS, the ASPCA’s toxic and non-toxic plant database, and UC IPM for pest and disease problems. If a claim can’t be checked, it doesn’t go in.

That standard matters most in two places:

The Plant Clinic

Problem guides start from the symptom you can see — yellow leaves, drooping, brown tips, fungus gnats — and walk through the causes in the order you’re most likely to meet them, each with the tell that identifies it and the fix that works.

Pet Safety

Our pet-safe and toxic lists are checked plant by plant against ASPCA data. We never guess on safety, and we say so plainly when a plant’s status is unconfirmed.
